Originally from Colorado, Shannon Axelson relocated to Portland, OR in 2017. She is self-taught in photography and also studied printmaking and design in college. Since arriving in Portland her practice has focused primarily on painting, utilizing her background in other mediums to inform compositions and color palettes. Her work is predominately figurative with subjects ranging from intimate portraits of loved ones to portrayals of shared experiences. Current events and social issues also play an important role thematically. She seeks opportunities to use her art to directly connect with community and amplify important messages.
