Food for Thoughtful Birds by Laura Bender
Growing up on a farm in NC, Laura Bender found a strong connection with the earth early on. It was a world of stark but enduring beauty. It was also a launching pad to discover the larger world of social and cultural opportunities beyond. She met her husband, John Early, at CCA and later they moved to San Diego and collaborated for many years as partners in Site Painters. Their work has spanned from private commissions to public art installations and encompassed murals, both interior and exterior, a multitude of paintings, and sculptures. In 1990 they gave birth to their daughter, Arcadia Trueheart, and moved to Portland a few years later.
Laura has always maintained an active studio life, creating paintings of her own inspirations while continuing to work on art commissions and occasionally leading art classes in elementary schools. After building a studio on their property in 2014, Laura has conducted a variety of art workshops and been actively exploring her life’s passion of making art.
Titled Food for Thoughtful Birds, this painting is about bounty and the idea that there are plenty of resources for all.
