Salisbury and Reruns by Micah Kassell
Micah Kassell is a multi-faceted artist and musician from Portland, Oregon. He was born and raised in Silverton, Oregon, and his parents steeped him in art, music and nature. He has been a part of the Portland music scene as a drummer since the 90s and has been a graphic and color designer at Nike and Adidas. All of these experiences have helped him carve out a unique voice as a visual artist and a maker of provocations. His abstract works and objects are inviting while cheekily antagonistic. His work can regularly be seen at Waterstone Gallery and he has a solo show there in September, 2022.
Micah has always believed that we often conflate convenience with freedom. His piece Salisbury and Reruns is a sculpture based on the TV dinner from the old days. Once considered a decadent feast and a convenient alternative to cooking, it was actually an instrument of distraction that took us away from the table and put us in front of the idiot box. The compartmentalized nature of it is meant to evoke nostalgia and then turn the screw of guilt. We sacrificed our individuality for mass produced Americana in a tray. (IG: @micah_kassell)

Original: 28 x 40 mixed media - tv tray, clay, foam and acrylic and aerosol paint with silverware
