EA grew up in Portland and became a single mother of three children by age 21. Her family survived domestic violence but had to move many times as she navigated rent-prices and work-places to support them staying together. EA dreamed of being an oil painter and not having to work a job so she could go to school and learn to paint. EA’s kids are grown up now but those dreams are still alive, so in the moments she finds time and energy, EA tries to paint something she loves about living here in this place that is called home.
EA’s piece in the show has an old house in the center of the painting that is surrounded by natural beauty. To EA, the house reflects the mountain in a way that says 'the mountain - this place on earth - is my home.’ She found this farm that grows lavender fields in the summer during an outdoor painting festival last year. EA connected to the scene because she feels like the house - old but grounded, a part of the city and landscape, providing a place to grow fields of colorful flowers, like her growing children and grandchildren.
