Hoyt Arboretum - Cole Lyons
Nature is the biggest influence in Cole’s art especially now that natural disasters are ever increasing with climate change. His goal through his art is to make observations, interpret, and communicate the forms of nature that he thinks should be preserved and cherished. He wants to create excitement about preservation through visual interest by bringing the feelings and emotions associated in nature. Permanent change has befallen much of the natural world and Cole hopes to honor that; by painting directly onto the surface, being concrete, having confident honest brushwork, and being passionate.
Colel painted this piece on location at Hoyt Arboretum, a place he goes to paint and get peace and quiet. He was trying to capture the diversity of plants in this majestic place. The Hoyt Arboretum is one of the places that holds special meaning and gives him strength in Portland.
