Pied Cow Weekend - Madeline Ford
Madeline is an artist born and raised in Oregon City who specializes in block printing, painting, illustration, and murals. She’s lived in other countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and Mexico, which has introduced her to new cultures and natural landscapes. She has a passion for the endemic flora and fauna in the places she’s lived and hopes to bring that knowledge and interest to people through her art in an age when people often have less access and connection to their natural surroundings. While she often uses bright and contrasting color blocking to highlight the vibrancy she sees in the world, she also keeps much of her practice in monochromatic black and white to emphasize contrast and simplicity.
Madeline’s artwork is of a cafe that was very influential to her growing up around Portland: the Pied Cow on Belmont St. This cafe was a haven on late nights with friends when they were too young to go to the bars and had nowhere else to go. For her, the Pied Cow was and continues to be an essential part of Portland.
