Alvaro Mendez Rosas is a natural artist who enjoys the simple things in life! Raised in Coachella Valley by his father, Alvaro took two years of art in high school but is mostly a self-taught artist. At the age of 16, he started drawing. Last March, Alvaro completed his second year sober, which he remarks as his biggest accomplishment. Today, he focuses on recovery and giving back to the community. He finds joy in his drawings and hopes to share his expressions through his art to the world.
The inspiration for his artwork is “Hope” and it ties in perfectly with the theme because all he has is hope. Hope that one day he will have success through his artwork and give back to the community. It connects to the theme “Homegrown” because in his home, there was always hope for everything and everyone! For his piece, Garden Flowers, the flowers represent his family’s garden and one of the many different aspects of growing up in his home! When he reminisces, some of Alvaro’s happiest moments come from growing up in his home.
